DATASYS LOG goes live at Virgin Trains |
|

Since privatisation in 1997, the Virgin Trains Log was a standalone Word document and had remained relatively unchanged. As a result, only one person could be in the Log file at any one time and it regularly corrupted. It was also saved in multiple locations on the network servers. Information was collated by the night-turn Duty Manager and the completed Log was emailed out to a large mailing list each day. The Log presented other limitations as it was difficult to search for issues relating to individual managers and identify historic trends.
Virgin was looking for a database solution giving multiple user access and multiple reader access on multiple platforms e.g. desktop, laptop, blackberry and PDA. The system also needed to be easy and quick to operate and provide comprehensive search capabilities in a centralised archive.
